Care Givers Benefit from PFCC
Think of the feeling you get when you receive a Thank You note from a patient who cares enough to tell you what a memorable experience you had created! Think about being part of the decision making on a unit and the involvement in creating unique care experiences for all patients. All this and more can be accomplished by simply using the PFCC methodology.
A Care Giver is any person within the health care setting whose work touches a patient’s or family’s experience including the doctors, nurses, therapists, technicians, dietitians, appointment schedulers, parking attendants, janitors, and those the patients and families may never see such as hospital leaders, supply chain employees, medical records clerks, and financial representatives - you are a Care Giver.
PFCC is not something else that must be added on to an already busy schedule. It’s also not something that only affects one specific aspect of care being provided. PFCC is intrinsic to the work that is already occurring. It is truly a shift in focus…in perspective. The concept of the shift is simple: move from focusing on what seems to work best from the eyes of the Care Giver, to what obviously works best from the eyes of the patient and family. Some of the benefits are:
- Improve efficiencies on the nursing unit.
- Support and involvement in decision making.
- Permits expression of ideas.
- Eliminates communication silos.
- Encourages teamwork.
- Provide exceptional care experiences for patients and their families on a daily basis.
