Intern Program

PFCC Partners @ The Innovation Center of UPMC has developed an Internship Program that allows undergraduate (junior or senior year), graduate and medical students an opportunity to gain experience in Patient and Family Centered Care (PFCC).  The program gives the student an opportunity to understand the delivery of care in real world hospital and office settings.  All of the information gathered through the program is used to help enhance patients’ and families experiences and at the same time give the students an experience to build on.

 Quotes From Past Interns
“This summer has started off really exciting shadowing at Magee’s Out Patient Clinic and Magee’s surgical waiting room. We’ve got great insights shadowing and have met wonderful families along the way. Each patient visit is unique and working hard to improve each of their experiences is so rewarding!” – Kayla Hilko

“I have been involved in many exciting projects at PFCC Partners for over a month, I like the creative ideas which people came up with in the meetings and the well-organized environment we are working in. I absolutely agree that working hard to contribute to PFCC is so rewarding!” – Feng Lou

"I believe in PFCC so much, that this is my third summer at PFCC Partners! It is an amazing program and gives all the tools that one would need to improve the care experience from the perspective of the patient and family. As a future physician, PFCC has taught me how to work on an interprofessional care team, has helped me build empathy and compassion towards patients, and has allowed me to view care in a clinical setting. I've been able to experience multiple specialties as well, including trauma, bariatrics, orthopedics, OB/GYN, pediatrics, etc. The methodology has worked for me and I plan to incorporate everything that I have learned into my future career."
– Brandon Tauberg

"I'm really enjoying being back at PFCC Partners.  As always, we've been involved with a lot of different working groups, projects and people throughout the hospital this summer. As a current medical student and in the past want-to-be medical student, the job is perfect for me. I've had the unique opportunity to work with and shadow not only doctors, like most students who volunteer, but also staff from various departments and of course patients and their family members. I continue to get a behind the scenes look at how a hospital is run and the important aspects of continual improvement in a patient's and the family's care experience. I look forward to finishing my last summer here and taking everything I've learned over the years into my future work as a doctor." – Joel Sirianni

“I'm excited to be working at PFCC Partners this summer. The experience has been great, and getting a chance to see health care from the patients side has already begun to change my perspective on becoming a physician and giving the best possible care. I've also been exposed to a number of specialties, and had a chance to broaden my horizons in medicine, while preparing for my first year of medical school."
